Hon. Stapleton-Simmonds celebrates her first anniversary as MP for Nevis 5

PRESS RELEASE (March 05, 2021) – The Hon. Cleone Stapleton- Simmonds, the former teacher, now lawyer is celebrating her first year as a Member of Parliament for St. Thomas’ Parish (Nevis 5) in the Nevis Island Assembly following her historic win in the March 05, 2020 by-election.

Hon. Stapleton-Simmonds worked hard to maintain the Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) stronghold seat previously held by long-time serving Parliamentarian and former political leader of the NRP, Mr. Joseph Parry, who retired from politics in 2020.

The Cotton Ground village native had a short-term election strategy as she campaigned voraciously to be the first elected female parliamentarian for the NRP.

Mrs. Stapleton- Simmonds, the young mother of two, wife, and career women have continued visiting her constituents regularly with holiday gifts, food packages, or just a simple house-call to see how her constituents are doing since that victorious day on March 05, 2020, when she secured 514 votes over the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) Candidate Mr. Keith Scarborough’s 191 votes.

To commemorate her first anniversary, Hon. Stapleton-Simmonds is celebrating with a calendar of events:

On Thursday, March 04 she appeared on the popular 2020 Vision Radio “Tell Me” program.

Friday, March 05 – Mass Canvassing and Food drive at Jessups Village from 4 p.m. and Ludo’s Games at Tammy’s Bar from 7 p.m.

Saturday, March 06 – Community Outreach from 9 a.m. to 12noon in Cotton Ground and Domino Competition in Barnes Ghaut at Cherry Tree Bar from 3 p.m.

And on Sunday, March 07 – Church Service at Bethel Apostolic Church from 11 a.m. followed by a Domino Competition in Barnes Ghaut from 1 p.m. and the celebration culminates with a Fun Day at the Cotton Ground Playfield from 12noon.
