Former junior minister of finance, mechanic, philanthropist and co-founder of PAM dies

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, July 28, 2020 (BHC Media)– A founding father of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) and former minister of government in the federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Mr Richard Caines has transitioned to be with the ancestors.


Early Tuesday morning news broke that Richard Caines who served as Junior Minister of finance, mechanic and philanthropist in the Kennedy Simmonds Administration from 1980-1993 died after a prolonged period of illness.

Though details are still emerging, sources have indicated that Mr Caines died late last night July 27, 2020.


Mr Caines was a prominent figure in the PAM/NRP government and he was known for his fiscal prudence. But many would also remember Caines as a successful business man operating a successful business at Prince’s Street in downtown Basseterre, St Kitts.
